El Generalife de Granada, the Royal Orchard.
This was the country residence of the sultan, in which the orchards provided the palaces with provisions as well as being a recreational area for the nobility.
This huge orchard was created by diverting the course of the river Darro with huge canals that reached up to the Generalife. The colourful and outstandingly beautiful Acequia Courtyard is full of irrigation canals and serves as the entry point into the premises. The building has two main bodies lying at the sides of a large courtyard, with a large pool in the middle. On the slopes of 'Sol' (Sun) hill, lies the entertainment courtyard of the Generalife, that was built between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. The views are incredible.
